WHAT JUST HAPPENED? | Port Maitland Pier Walk

A simple walk on the Port Maitland Pier turned out to be much more eventful than expected.

On a beautiful Saturday in June, Lana and I visited Port Maitland, Ontario, at the mouth of the Grand River where it meets Lake Erie. My plan was straightforward: walk the length of the pier, observe the fishing activity, and enjoy the day.

What happened instead was a series of surprising moments.

Along the pier, anglers were catching fish and sharing stories. One unusual catch caused a stir among nearby fishermen, but the biggest commotion came when a rainbow trout (which some observers called a steelhead) was landed and photographed by several bystanders.

The unexpected events left me wondering just how much can happen during a single walk that takes less than ten minutes from end to end.

Join me for a walk along one of Lake Erie's most interesting fishing piers and see what happened.

In this video, I head to one of my favorite Michigan rivers in search of brown trout. The water conditions looked great, and the fish were willing to chase a jerkbait.

I ended up landing multiple brown trout and had action throughout the trip. I'll walk through the conditions, the lure I was using, and some of the tactics that helped trigger bites.
