It's a flat, dry, desert place, and the best of it sits a bumpy four wheel drive ride out from the resort, which is exactly why so many people fly home calling it pleasant but a bit boring. They only ever saw the pool.

If you're working out the real things to do in Boa Vista, Cape Verde, here's what the video covers. It opens on the Cabo Santa Maria, the rusted Spanish shipwreck standing in the surf up on the north coast, then the white Sahara dunes of the Viana Desert, and Praia de Santa Monica, an empty beach that runs for miles and landed on a Travel and Leisure list of the most beautiful in the world. There's the loggerhead turtle nesting, one of the biggest sites anywhere on earth, the sea caves at Varandinha, and the wind, which wrecks the sunbed but makes this one of the best kite and windsurf spots in the Atlantic.

From there it's the honest, everyday stuff: the oldest village at Povoacao Velha, the town of Sal Rei with its little offshore fort, the painted northern villages and their goat cheese, the pottery and the one patch of green at Rabil, the deep sea fishing, the big July festival, the lonely lighthouse out on the wild east coast, and where to actually eat. I've been straight about what's a seasonal gamble, like the whales, and what to skip entirely.

昭和のドライブインの厚切りチャーシューが凄かった【青の国普代のレストハウスうしお】

岩手県普代村、国道45号線沿いにある「レストハウスうしお」。

国道45号線の開通とともに、半世紀以上にわたって三陸を行き交うドライバーや観光客のオアシスとして営業を続けてきた、昭和の香り漂うドライブインです。

店内には懐かしいジュークボックスや開店当初の写真が残り、窓の向こうには沢漁港と三陸鉄道・大沢橋梁を望む絶景が広がります。

今回は何度も足を運び、三陸名物の磯ラーメンと蒸しウニ丼、驚くほど分厚くトロトロのチャーシューがのった豚骨チャーシュー麺、海老フライカレー、期間限定のもやし味噌チャーシュー麺、冷やし焼き干しラーメン、辛口ラーメンまでいただきました。

正直なところ、昔ながらのドライブインなので最初は味にはそれほど期待していなかったのですが……食べてびっくり！
どれもしっかり美味しく、ボリュームも満点。
「これは紹介しなきゃ」と、何度も通って撮影することになりました。

さらに三陸鉄道にも実際に乗車し、高さ約30mの大沢橋梁で流れる車内アナウンスも録音。
列車からの風景とレストハウスうしおから眺める大沢橋梁、両方をお楽しみください。

三陸自動車道の開通によって国道45号線を走る車は少なくなりましたが、インターチェンジを降りてでも食べに行きたい一軒です。

For Brandon Sandefur, country music has never been an unkempt, dusty side road; it’s been his superhighway, the ultimate path guiding him through life—bumps, cracks, and curves included. The Houston native and former All-Conference linebacker has spent decades writing, performing, and navigating the realities that come with building a life around music, for better and for worse. But songwriting is just one part of a larger plan to make a tangible impact on the communities he cares about most—alongside the music, proceeds connected to the project support inspiring nonprofit organizations, including AHERO and Red Flamingo, benefiting veterans, first responders, and suicide awareness efforts. Already back in the studio recording new material for a full EP, Brandon Sandefur is standing solidly on his own two feet. The dark timber houses that lean out over its lanes are Bulgarian National Revival, stone below and wood above, and the whole peninsula has been under UNESCO protection since 1983. From the air the shape of it finally makes sense: a small rock in the sea that people have refused to leave for thirty centuries.
