The Palomares Incident: The Day America Dropped 4 Hydrogen Bombs on Spain

On January 17, 1966, a US Air Force B-52 bomber collided with its refueling tanker high over Palomares, a small farming village in southern Spain — and dropped four hydrogen bombs. This is the full story of the Palomares incident: the "broken arrow" that scattered plutonium across the village's fields, the H-bomb that vanished into the Mediterranean for 80 days, and the cover-up that outlived almost everyone involved.

Three bombs were found within a day. Two had cracked open on impact, blowing plutonium dust over hundreds of acres of farmland. The fourth was gone — carried out to sea under its parachute — and finding it became the most expensive search in naval history to that point, guided by a Spanish fisherman the Navy almost ignored.

But the real story is what happened after. The United States denied a bomb was missing for 44 days. An American ambassador swam off the beach for the world's cameras to "prove" the water was safe — while the plutonium sat in the soil, not the sea. Sixteen hundred servicemen shoveled radioactive earth with bare hands and no masks. And sixty years later, the contaminated soil is still fenced off in Palomares — with 1,600 new homes just approved beside it.

The Tin Cup Drift Skiff returns to the lake for the motor shakedown. After having the Mercury 15 2 stroke mounted to the Alumacraft 1436, there was only one thing left to do… SEND IT! We launched the boat in Center Hill Lake in Tennessee for the wild Fourth of July weekend crowd hahaha but now worries.. This sucker is fast, with my wife and I and our gear this flatty was scooting! We even outran a funnel cloud and storm! I believe we’ve got a good one folks! We are so thrilled how it’s turned out so far. 一路风尘仆仆，漫步的终点我们留给了雨中的阿姆斯特丹。漫步在运河桥旁，看着有轨电车缓缓驶过。这一场春雨，不仅洗刷了旅途的疲惫，也为这个湿润、温柔的荷兰春天画上了最舒适的句点。

As fly fishermen, we are blessed here in Scandinavia with Europes largest caddis fly Phryganea Grandis also known as murragh in Ireland and the great red sedge in the UK. From the Latin Grandis ‘Large’ referring to the dimension of the species and phryganea ‘spiral stick’ referring to the case constructed by the larva. Caddis flies fall under the Order Trichoptera; tricho - meaning hairy and ptera meaning wing.

Onko kyttyrälohi ekologinen uhka Tenojoella, vai sen kalastus ja hyödyntäminen uusi miljoonabisnes?

Atlantin lohi on radikaalisti vähentynyt ja tilalle vyörynyt satojen tuhansien kalojen armeija.

Tässä dokumentissa pureudumme Tenojoen historialliseen murrokseen. Kalastusmatkailu koki kovan kolauksen, kun joen lohenkalastus jouduttiin sulkemaan ja turistikato romahdutti alueen talouden. Mutta luonto ei jäänyt odottamaan: Tyynenmeren kyttyrälohi (pink salmon) kotiutui pohjoiseen jäädäkseen, ja lajin parittomina vuosina lisääntyvä kanta on muuttanut kaiken.

Tuoreimmat valmistuneet tutkimustulokset paljastavat kyttyrälohipadon aiheuttaman karun ilmiön: alkuperäisten lohensmolttien vaellus on hidastunut muutamasta minuutista jopa kahteen vuorokauteen, mikä altistaa lohen poikaset joen ja rannikon pedoille, kuten hauelle, taimenelle, mateelle, koskelolle ja hylkeille.

Mutta kolkutteleeko tämä peloton vieraslaji jo Itämeren porteilla? Havaintoja on tehty jo Tanskassa, ja se saattaa laittaa rantavaltioiden kalastuspolitiikan ja lohikiintiöt täysin uusiksi. Maailmalla kyttyrälohi on miljoonaluokan kaupallinen jättiläinen ja huippulaadukas ruokakala – voisiko se olla sitä myös Suomessa?
