Tying the Crystal Meth Sucker Spawn Steelhead Egg Fly Pattern

The Crystal Meth Sucker Spawn or just Crystal Sucker Spawn is a great fly for a steelheader just getting into tying up their own flies. You'll want to use a few colors, pink, pearl, red, orange, salmon pink, chartreuse and dark colors. The pattern is tied to represent the egg clusters of the sucker fish that spawn in late winter along Steelhead Alley in and around the Great Lakes.

The fly is similar to the Sucker Spawn fly pattern but tied with Pearl Diamond Braid rather than yarn. It can be tied with or without a bead. I use one less loop on my bead head flies than those without, so a #8 BH will have 5 loops and a non-bead head fly will have 6.

It's important to add either some hard as nails or some UV resin to the threads on the underside of the hook as they are exposed. Adding this will ensure you have a more durable fly.
