While fighting hoards of biting deer flies, I ditch my modern fishing equipment and try my luck with so called "survival fishing gear."

I tie up simple fishing line onto a beaver chewed log, attach a hook and sinker and bait with a worm in effort to catch a brook trout lunch.
Is this technique effective? Can it produce more calories than it consumes? Find out.
I personally think, like all things, that it can work give a specific set of parameters, but is not universally as effective as modern fishing gear.
