I would never have expected to catch what I caught in this particular dirty little creek. This creek is a regulated creek that rarely floods, has a muddy bottom, is very shallow and has lots of cattle walking through it. This is the carpiest looking creek in the region and to catch a Murray cod in it blew me away.
Murray cod season is closed and this was a genuine by-catch which I am sure that you will all see anyhow.
Carp fishing in shallow water can be very exciting and great fun. Once the carp is hooked the fight is real with fish often leaping from the water as the carp that I catch in this video does.
I prefer to use worm whenever I go carp fishing whether it is deep water or shallow water, and following closely behind is corn. Corn is an excellent bait for carp.
European carp are a declared noxious species here in Victoria and it is illegal to release them into the water alive.
