It's not always about edible fish. Catching carp brings me every bit as much satisfaction as catching edible fish such as Murray cod or trout.
Often I find myself wondering what difference it makes whether a fish is edible or not when most of us practice catch and release anyway!
Carp fishing is one of the most underrated forms of fishing in Australia. It is fun, it's great for the kids and when all other fishing is slow, quite often it is the carp fishing that keeps out fishing cravings fed.
On fathers day I took my wife and kids to Broken Creek at Dip Bridge near Katamatite, and we did not get a single bite. SO I asked for help on social media and was given a red hot tip.
I checked out the spot that I was sent to and it looked great, but I like to leave an element of my fishing to my own nous so I ventured downstream to a likely looking spot about half way between where I was told to try and where I fished last week.
I was hoping to catch a Yellowbelly. Had I caught a decent sized Yellowbelly I would have kept it for a feed, but I didn't, I only caught carp.
I still had every bit as much fun, the only thing I missed out on catching was a feed, I still smiled and enjoyed my fishing just as much.
Trout season has just opened and here I am going carp fishing. Love'n it!
