Summer fishing is in full swing with species like kingfish, snappers and summer run weakfish added to the menu, along with already popular targets like fluke, sea bass, porgies, blues and stripers.
The offshore scene continues to heat up with bluefin and yellowfin tuna, mahi and good numbers of sharks. A few wahoo, white marlin and bigeye tuna have helped spice the action.
Montauk remains destination number one for both striped bass and fluke.
Many stripers from 30 to 50 pounds continue to fall to live baits in the rips at the Point. Fluke from 5 to 8 pounds and better are common, with some anglers filling limits with quality fish. Noyac and Peconic bays are experiencing an excellent run of 2 to 4 pound weakfish, while the South Shore surf is hosting a healthy population of kingfish. Bluefish continue to entertain casters on the north side of Montauk, while small blues are spread along much of the central North Shore’s beaches. Snappers are in at the docks on both shores, making it the perfect time to round up some kids and get them into fishing.
The 60th Annual Babylon Tuna Club Invitational Tuna Tournament kicks off on Friday and runs through Sunday at the Babylon Village Dock. Captains meeting at 6 p.m. tonight at the dock for those still looking to enter.
